TSH-Receptor Antibodies
TSH-Receptor Antibodies are antibodies that bind to the receptor on the surface of the thyroid cell (thyrocyte). They can be stimulatory and blocking, being directly related to the functional status of the thyroid gland. It is necessary to examine them when assessing a state of elevated thyroid hormones in the blood- thyrotoxicosis. Their positivity speaks in the direction of increased thyroid function-Bazedov’s disease/Graves disease.
Very often in autoimmune thyroid diseases, more than one antibody is positive. Autoimmune thyroid diseases are associated not only with a change in functional status but also with an increased incidence of other autoimmune diseases and conditions such as recurrent miscarriages.
