The laboratory on two continents
Interesting facts about Kandilarov laboratory that you don’t know
Did you know that at Kandilarov Laboratories we are on two continents?
When mission is inspired by genuine caring, it knows no bounds. “The Lab on Two Continents is not just a campaign – it’s a message of health and trust that transcends distance. With their laboratories, the Kandilarov brothers dedicate their knowledge and efforts to people wherever they are.
Thanks to prof. Pimpirev, Dragomir Mateev and the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, the Kandilarov laboratory is on the icy continent.
Prof. Hristo Pimpirev is the President of the BAI, and head of the Bulgarian Antarctic expeditions, by Dr. Rositsa Yaneva and Dragomir Mateev.
An interesting fact that you may not know about us is that we have a branch on Livingstone Island and we take care of the health of Bulgarian polar explorers by doing research before, during and after the expeditions. With an area of 798 square kilometres, Livingstone Island is the second largest in the archipelago after King George. According to Australian mountaineer Gilday, the island has perhaps the worst weather in the world. It’s always a real thrill when we’re there and we can’t stop enjoying the huge icebergs and penguins that are all around us.
Kandilarov Laboratory and the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute are also carrying out scientific research activities, and this year our project is related to research that will be conducted on the crew of the ship “St. We will see what differences there will be between the two groups of participants – the ship’s crew and the Bulgarian polar explorers.
“We want to track stress levels in our Antarctic expedition participants. We are doing research on them, and this research will be deepened every year. This is what Kirill Kandilarov, co-founder of the Kandilarov Medical Diagnostic Laboratory, said in an interview with BTA. Noted Kirill Kandilarov, partner in Kandilarov Laboratory. He also says. that the study will last for several years and then it will be seen, based on the collected data, where there is a change and how the polar explorers are affected by the stressful environment.
Kiril Kandilarov will track the different stress levels of the participants in the 32nd Bulgarian expedition to Antarctica. He will compare the results of the research conducted before, during and after the stay of the Bulgarian Antarctic participants on the Ice Continent.
Laboratory of the Bulgarian Antarctic Station and online consultations with Dr. Atanas Peltekov
Our laboratory, which is located on the Bulgarian base, we equip it every year, said Kandilarov. He specified that with the help of the military research ship “St. Cyril and Methodius” (NIC 421) has the opportunity to send modern equipment. “During these years of cooperation with the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute, it was very difficult to carry the apparatus to Antarctica. Now with the ship the equipment can be brought and then returned.” In this way, he said, a variety of modern equipment can be made available and more types of research can be done.
The manager of the laboratory “Kandilarov” pointed out that the Bulgarian Antarctic station on Livingstone Island has a blood count, biochemical and urine analyzer.
The idea of the medical laboratory is to monitor the health status of the expedition participants and, if necessary, to carry out additional tests. If any of the participants need a medical examination, the necessary tests can be run accordingly, Kandilarov added.
“In each research group there is a doctor who we have trained to work with the equipment,” said Kiril Kandilarov and specified that the medical laboratory functions together with the doctors of the Bulgarian base “St. Kliment Ohridski”, and in this expedition it cooperates with Dr. Atanas Peltekov. “He is fully trained to work with the equipment. If there is any problem, he is a doctor and can make a decision if it is necessary to do some specific online consultation in real time,” Kandilarov added. He said the base has a good internet connection and can maintain constant contact with participants.
Kandilarov Laboratories is now a symbol of quality and safety – a place where tradition meets the most modern scientific achievements, and every research is done with the patient in mind. This campaign is dedicated to all who believe that health care has no limits.
