ROTAVIRUS/ADENOVIRUS/ASTROVIRUS/NOROVIRUS COMBINATION TEST

A combined immunochromatographic rapid test for the detection of the four most common causative agents of viral gastroenteritis. The test is suitable for children and adults, is not affected by the intake of medications, including antibiotics
Rotaviruses are the most common causative agents of acute viral diarrhea. They are one of the few viruses that cause limited gastroenteritis (isolated inflammation of the stomach and small intestine only, without involvement of the colon).
The mechanism of transmission is fecal-oral (by excretion of viruses in the faeces and subsequent infection by oral ingestion) and contact- by contact of infectious material with the hand and then in the mouth. All ages are susceptible, but children 2-3 years of age are most commonly infected. Adults, if ill, usually have several days of nausea, listlessness, and abdominal pain. Diarrhoea is a less important symptom in adults than in children.

Infection with adenovirus – Most often affect young people and childhood, especially infancy. The source of infection is sick people and asymptomatic carriers. The mechanism of transmission is fecal-oral, with air, milk, water, food products, contaminated hands being the main factors of transmission. The clinical picture is dominated by fever, abdominal pain and watery diarrhoea, which usually resolve within 1-2 weeks.

Astroviral gastroenteritis is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines. Symptoms of gastroenteritis include pain and cramping in the abdomen, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. The disease is usually spread easily through contact with a sick person. Consumption of contaminated food and drink can also spread the disease. Most people recover in a few days by taking plenty of fluids and resting. Symptoms are usually abdominal pain and cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chills, subfebrile temperature (below 37 degrees Celsius), headache, muscle aches, weakness.

Norovirus is also an important viral causative agent of gastroenteritis in developed countries, on par with rotavirus infections. It is also called ‘winter vomiting sickness’ or ‘stomach flu’ because it increases in frequency during the winter months. Symptoms are mainly vomiting, diarrhoea, febrility, faintness and dehydration within the first 24 hours of infection. Unlike rotaviruses, they mainly affect schoolchildren and adults rather than children. Most cases occur on cruise ships, campgrounds, and banquets.
