19 October – International Breast Cancer Day

On the 19th of October, we celebrate International Breast Cancer Day.

This oncological disease is among the most common in women, both in Bulgaria and worldwide. Data show that in Bulgaria every year new diagnoses of breast cancer are over 4000.

In recent years, there has been a revolution in the treatment of the disease. In just the last 10 years, treatment for this type of cancer is no longer mainly limited to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Doctors prepare an individual plan for each patient, and according to the stage of the disease and the type of cancer, a type of treatment is planned, which may include hormone therapy, biological therapy, etc.

Prevention is the most essential part of fighting this disease. Therefore, women, even at an earlier age, should have screening and once a year prophylactic screening.

In 1985, October was declared World Breast Cancer Awareness Month. October 19 was adopted as International Day for the Fight Against Breast Cancer. Since then, every year during this month, various events are organized all over the world, the aim of which is both to promote the causes of this disease and to emphasize the great importance of prevention and early detection.

Today, the color pink, especially pink ribbons, is a powerful symbol of breast cancer awareness and the fight to find a cure for the disease. It is used all over the world, highlighting the cause in many countries with different cultures. In the late 1990’s, the Susan G. Komen began incorporating pink as a color in its cause by giving pink visors to women who participated in the Race for the Cure. According to studies, the color pink is accepted as one that calms and relieves stress. Light pink is believed to give health.

A sampling fee is payable separately.
