17th November- International Day for the Fight against Pancreatic and Prostate Cancer
Pancreatic cancer is an insidious disease that is characterized by a silent course and, when it is already symptomatic, is at a fairly advanced stage. Every year in Bulgaria about 1000 people are registered with pancreatic cancer, but unfortunately very few of them reach surgical treatment. In 2030, pancreatic cancer is expected to climb to the second highest mortality rate among cancers.
Cancer is difficult to diagnose because of the vague and hardly noticeable symptoms. Most patients are male and so they should be more alert for bulging symptoms such as discrete low back pain, unwarranted diabetes in young – 40-50 year olds and sudden jaundice.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men. The most at-risk groups are men over 50 years of age and men over 45 years of age who have a familial burden. Unlike pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer develops very slowly, and is asymptomatic in the early stages.
The most common complaints that occur and for which a specialist should be visited are the following: more frequent urination; weaker stream when urinating; interruption of the stream; pain or difficulty urinating; blood in the urine.
A sampling fee is payable separately.
